In The Same Boat presents

An Evening With Roy Williams

Thursday 8 April

In The Same Boat presents Write to Play with Roy Williams.
Listen to Roy in conversation and learn about his life, career and work; hear extracts from two of his plays; and join us in discussion with Roy about his themes, styles and methods of writing.

Roy Williams began writing, aged 23, after starting his career as an actor. He went on to win the Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright Award in 2001. His plays deal with the politics of today’s society, in situations his audiences readily understand. Plays include: Local Boy (Hampstead Theatre, 2000), Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads (National Theatre, 2002), Days of Significance (Swan Theatre, 2007), and Category B (Tricycle Theatre, 2009).

'The most prolific and on-the-money dramatist around at the moment' (Daily Telegraph on Days of Significance)

'A lively, vigorous piece of work' (The Guardian on Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads)

'This gripping, strongly-plotted account of life in a Category B jail' (Daily Telegraph on Category B)

'Takes on big themes with muscular ease' (The Independent on Category B)

Write to Play... events focus on a contemporary playwright, changing venues each time and striving to give audiences the opportunity to engage with playwrights.
