Two Nobel Prize-winning poets, Seamus Heaney and Derek Walcott, bring the world premiere of a new musical interpretation, Burial at Thebes, to the Globe. This epic Greek tragedy has been updated as a modern day investigation of politics and power and is composed by award winning Trinidad born Dominique Le Gendre with the Royal Opera House’s Peter Manning conducting.

The story centres on the victorious leader Creon, who is forced to choose between his public responsibility and personal concerns and all too late realises the fatal consequences of his decisions.

Derek Walcott directs a company of over 30 orchestra, soloists and chorus to recreate the action in Heaney’s epic poem with dramatic narration in a Trinidadian Rapso style.
