Legacy
Every day Shakespeare's Globe captivates people like you. Help us continue our work for the audiences of tomorrow in a very simple and effective way - by leaving a legacy in your Will.
There remains much to be done at the Globe, both to complete existing projects and to create new programmes which will enable a greater number of people to enjoy the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
For example, we are aiming to build an Education and Resource Centre which will enable tens of thousands of young people to explore their imaginations and creative skills.
Once you have provided for your family and friends, leaving a gift to Shakespeare’s Globe will ensure that Shakespeare’s plays can be enjoyed at the Globe for many generations to come. All legacies to charities are tax free. If you make a gift to Shakespeare’s Globe in your will, its value will be deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is calculated, which means that you can help us and reduce your inheritance tax liability at the same time.
Whatever you decide, your legacy to the Globe will bring important projects closer to reality.
We recommend that you consult a solicitor who will be able to give you specialist advice according to your own individual circumstances. This is especially important for those who are resident outside England and Wales, where different laws apply.
There are two main ways to leave a legacy to Shakespeare’s Globe:
1. a pecuniary legacy - which is a gift of a certain sum of money
2. a residuary legacy - which is a percentage, or all, of what is left over after your other expenses have been paid.
A residuary legacy is probably the best way to benefit Shakespeare’s Globe because it is less likely to be affected by inflation.
