Every year Globe Education celebrates the birthday of Sam Wanamaker, founder of the Shakespeare Globe Centre, with a day of free workshops, demonstrations and platform discussions.
Join a host of Globe professionals for a day of activities for children, families and individuals for sessions including:
- The Stories of Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It Globe Education Practitioners share thirty minute versions of the plays.
- Practical introductions to plays of the theatre season for all the family led by a Globe Education Practitioner. 20 minutes.
- Remembering the Globe Peter McCurdy (Master Craftsman, Shakespeare’s Globe) gives a 45 minute illustrated talk about Sam Wanamaker and the methods used to recreate the Globe Theatre on Bankside.
- In Form and Moving Glynn MacDonald (Head of Movement, Shakespeare’s Globe) explores form and movement. 1 hour.
- Setting the Scene for As You Like It An introduction to the play staged that day. 1 hour.
- Making Music at the Globe Discover why music is such an important part of performances at the Globe and why Shakespeare wrote speaking roles for musicians in Romeo & Juliet. 1 hour.
- Trippingly on the Tongue Text workshop with Giles Block. 1 hour.
- Telling Tales from Around the Globe Saul Jaffe shares stories of love in all its forms: requited and unrequited, forbidden and denied, mystical and mythical – love realised! Inspired by Romeo & Juliet, these stories feature love as it struggles to overcome the many obstacles thrown in its path. 30 minutes.
- Fifty Years Ago Today: Othello, Stratford 1959 On the 50th anniversary of Sam Wanamaker's performance of Iago with Paul Robeson as Othello, Stratford (1959), Professor Tony Howard (University of Warwick) looks at the production and its political background. 1 hour.
- The Alchemy of Voice Stewart Pearce (Head of Voice, Globe Education) explores the use of voice. 1 hour.
- Talking Theatre Post-show discussion after the 2.00pm performance with members of the As You Like It company. 1 hour.

Venue: Shakespeare's Globe
Tickets: Every activity is free of charge. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis – just turn up on the day to book. Booking for all sessions opens at 9.00am on Saturday morning in the main foyer.
