What's Wrong with Timon of Athens?

Thursday 4 September 6-7pm
with John Wolfson (Curator of Rare Books, Globe Education)

Timon of Athens is Shakespeare's least produced play, his least read play, and his least discussed play. This year, as the Globe Theatre is presenting Shakespeare's least produced play on the outdoor stage, John Wolfson has organised a discussion of the major problems of this confusing play:

Did a second playwright write much of it? And if so, why? And which scenes did he write?
Are important scenes missing from this play?
Why did Shakespeare abandon this play to another writer when it was more than half finished? And why, despite the problems, was this play so successful during the Restoration?

Mr. Wolfson will explore these questions with profundity, lucidity, and a sense of humour. John Wolfson will be assisted in his talk by Globe actors.
