Every year Globe Education celebrates the birthday of Sam Wanamaker, founder of the Shakespeare Globe Centre, with a day of free workshops, demonstrations and platform discussions.

Join a host of Globe professionals for a day of activities for children, families and individuals for sessions including:

  • The Stories of Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It Globe Education Practitioners share twenty minute versions of the plays.
  • Practical introductions to plays of the theatre season for all the family led by a Globe Education Practitioner.
  • Remembering the Globe Peter McCurdy (Master Craftsman, Shakespeare’s Globe) gives an illustrated talk about Sam Wanamaker and the methods used to recreate the third Globe Theatre on Bankside.
  • In Form and Moving Glynn MacDonald (Head of Movement, Shakespeare’s Globe) explores form and movement.
  • Setting the Scene for As You Like It An introduction to the play staged that evening.
  • Swords and Swordplay A live demonstration of Elizabethan swordplay and stage combat led by Philip Stafford (Fight coordinator).
  • Making Music at the Globe Discover why music is such an important part of performances at the Globe and why Shakespeare wrote speaking roles for musicians in Romeo & Juliet.
  • Trippingly on the Tongue Text workshop with Giles Block
  • Telling Tales from Around the Globe Saul Jaffe shares stories of love in all its forms: requited and unrequited, forbidden and denied, mystical and mythical – love realised! Inspired by Romeo & Juliet, these stories feature love as it struggles to overcome the many obstacles thrown in its path.

Tickets: Every activity is free of charge. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis – just turn up on the day to book. Booking for all sessions opens at 9.00am on Saturday morning in the main foyer.
